Mr. Dirk Brouwer


Mr. Dirk Brouwer has had a distinguished career in investment banking spanning over 20 years.
He worked as First Vice President at PaineWebber Inc. in New York and London for 8 years,
he was a Managing Director at Merrill Lynch in London from 1995-2002 and he is the Founder
and Managing Director of Sequoia, a leading European, pre-eminent independent corporate finance
advisory and private equity firm. Mr. Brouwer also is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Catalyst
Micro finance Investors, Chief Executive of Catalyst Microfinance Investment Company and Chairman and
Executive Director of ASA International. In addition, Mr. Brouwer serves on the board of many of
ASA International’s partner organizations.

Mr. A.K.M Aminur Rashid

Mr. A.K.M Aminur Rashid


Mr. Aminur Rashid achieved his Masters of Science from Dhaka University. He has been awarded with a certificate in training and development from the Institute of Personnel and Development, United Kingdom by completing “Training of Trainers” course under DANIDA Fellowship Program in Denmark. He also attended a Participatory Planning and Institution Formation workshop organized by COADY Graduates association of Bangladesh and COADY International Institute, Canada in Bangladesh.

Mr. Rashid had been deputed to ASA International in 2011 and serving as Chief Coordinating Officer. He joined ASA Bangladesh in 1992 and had been closely associated with micro-finance program of ASA since 1992. He started his career in Grameen Bank and worked there for 03 years before joining ASA Bangladesh.

Mr. Rashid is well experienced in microfinance training and TA activities and had successfully implemented microfinance in various countries including Cambodia, Tajikistan, Laos, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Mexico and the Philippines. He carried out a number of assessments, projects review,, etc. in different countries like China, Indonesia, India, Nepal, Tanzania, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Myanmar.

Mr. Rashid has a publication titled “How ASA Operates Profitably Serving the Poor” and co-authored a book titled “Introduction to ASA Innovative and Sustainable Microfinance Model”.

Mr. Mohammed Azim Hossain

Mr. Mohammed Azim Hossain


Mr. Mohammed Azim Hossain is the Director of Investment & Treasury of ASA International. He joined ASA Bangladesh in 1984 and performing as a Director of Finance & MIS since 1992. He is also in charge of ASA NGO Partnership Build-up Program, where small NGOs/MFIs are receiving financial and technical support from ASA. Mr. Hossain has vast experience in product development and lending methodology in the microfinance sector as well as financial management, accounting system design, business planning, financial forecasting and performing analysis. During his 29 years’ experience as a financial concourse he provided consultancy in the Microfinance sector to various MFIs in countries like Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Philippines, Yemen, Cambodia and Indonesia. Mr. Hossain also worked under UNDO MicroStart program in the Philippines and Nigeria.

Mr. Mohammed Azim Hossain received his Master’s degree from the University of Dhaka and a Diploma in Project Management from Denmark. He also participated in numerous training courses and workshops in countries like USA, Denmark, The Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Thailand, Japan, United Kingdom and Malaysia.

Md. Nurul Islam Chowdhury Mafique

Md. Nurul Islam Chowdhury Mafique


Md. Nurul Islam Chowdhury Mafique obtained his post-graduate degree in Management from National University of Bangladesh in the year 1997. He joined in ASA 1994 and since then has been closely associated with the implementation of ASA’s microfinance program and impact assessment team. He was the CEO of ASA Afghanistan in the year 2009 to 2010.
As an Assistant Director (Program), Mr. Mafique’s major job responsibilities include involving himself in policy formulation and decision-making processes as well conducting intensive field visits to supervise and follow up on project activities, evaluate field level staff performance, participate in staff recruitment processes, organize and conduct various staff development training sessions, and innovate new ideas/initiatives to manage delinquencies.

From 2005 to 2006, Mr. Mafique provided consultancy services to CCT (Center for Community Transformation) in the Philippines and CHC (Cambodia Health Committee) in Cambodia, to strengthen the Micro-Service Delivery System, Human Resources Management System, Monitoring/Supervision and implementation, financial control system, accounting & record keeping system of world renowned ASA cost effective & sustainable methodology.
To enhance his capacity, he also attended many seminars, training, workshops and conferences in Bangladesh and outside of Bangladesh.

Mr. Muhammad Shah Newaj

Mr. Muhammad Shah Newaj


Mr. Muhammad Shah Newaj obtained his Post-Graduate degree in International Human Resource Management from Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. He also achieved a Diploma in Sales & Marketing Management from the London Centre of Marketing, UK and Masters in Social Work from Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, Bangladesh.

Currently, he is the Country Chief of ASA Microfinance (Tanzania) Limited. He also served as the Jr. Deputy Director of ASA, Bangladesh. Before joining ASA he worked as the Operations Officer at The City Bank Limited for about two years.

Mr. Newaj attended many training courses on microfinance development issues at ASA and banking operation issues at City Bank. Furthermore, he has experience to conduct research in business field and social aspect as well as presented many reports on microfinance operations..

Mr. Mohammad Mishu Mahmud

Sir. Mohammad Mishu Mahmud


Mr. Mohammad Mishu Mahmud obtained his Post-Graduate degree in Management from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Before being deputed to ASA International, he served ASA Bangladesh as an Assistant Director of Program and Monitoring. He was closely associated with the implementation of ASA’s microfinance program and impact assessment team since 1995. He also worked at Proshika Bangladesh for three years as a Program Coordinator.
Mr. Mahmud also worked as a Consultant microcredit support project-UNDP in the Philippines. He was also a Consultant for Lak Jaya Micro Finance in Sri Lanka and Vindhyanchal Finlease Ltd, Lucknow in India. He was the Head of Operation for ASA International in India as well as CEO of ASA International-Afghanistan.
He attended many training courses on enterprise and business development issues conducted by different financial institutions and NGOs. He also wrote several articles publishing in national dailies.
